For those reluctant and timorous e-readers like myself, who shake their head at new technologies, and mutter to themselves about 'signs of the apocalypse', are there means by which one can see a 'blurb' of an e-book - the back-cover or inside-jacket precis meant to provoke and entice?

And can one even have a peek at the first page or two (a means by which I check a printed book is truly worthy of digging out my meagre funds for)?

Any of the enlightened who will condescend to illuminate will be gratefully murmured about, and thought of (by me) quite fondly.
