How about starting a critters sandbox for each genre? We can all work on the same SF, F or H story. To allow everyone a chance at using their creativity each critter id is allowed only 100 words a day. If the story sells the proceeds can support the website.

What if once you died, science found a way to preserve your spirit in a machine, until you had enough time to pay-off your taxes

A human culture with perfect memory who uses forgetting as a currency.

Someone or something is stealing an element a day from Earth. It starts with Lawrencium and works its way downwards. Scientists have to find out the cause of the theft and stop it before it's too late.

People's bodies start growing second mouths that say what they really think and mean. Then they start growing third mouths that say weird languages that no one can understand. Then they start growing fourth mouths whose words affect reality and dreams. And so on.

Charles, a young man who just graduated from college and is ready to start his career as a psychiatrist, makes a promise to himself. He will, just once, believe completely whatever psychotic story a patient tells him.

Someone on another board put hacker and geneticist in the same sentence. I believe there's a whole bunch of ideas in those two words.

So the main character discovers a book in their school library that was purposely planted there by a member of a group the school librarian is in. Well the kid is there before the librarian is there, so the assistant is there and he doesn't know the book is special so he checks it out to the kid...well then the kid reads the book (whatevers in it idk) and discovers the secret of the librarian and the librarian can be good or bad....your decision...

I don't know how helpful this is, but I maintain a daily writing blog of 100-word stories. They're all here and there, mostly based on a striking image that occurred to me. Obviously, 100 words isn't really enough to really explore any ideas with much depth. They're all under a Creative Commons license, so if you feel inspired by one of them, please feel free to write a full-length story. I'd love to feel like I helped someone come up with a cool idea.

I was toying with an Urban Fantasy idea that went nowhere and one of the characters was going to be a guy that lived forever by growing a copy of himself that gradually took over. So the copy would start as a lump under his arm and get bigger. The idea was to see him as a guy carrying a baby around all the time, but the baby was a miniature copy of himself. Since that was the image I wanted to play with I never had to worry about how he'd cope when he had the equivalent of a teenager hanging off him. Now THAT could lead to some awkward situations.

What about someone with the ability to reproduce by the equivalent of mitosis?

Would the offspring be clones? Would a person have to live like a conjoined twin while their offspring develops before splitting? Would the offspring/clone share your consciousness while it is developing, or would it be lifeless/comatose until the moment of separation?

Around the time that Augustine wrote his _Confessions,_ Apuleius wrote _The Golden Ass,_ a similar story of wealthy, dissipated youth followed by profound religious conversion. However, Apuleius converted to Isis worship.

At the time, Isis worship was much more widespread than Christianity. How might western civilization have evolved differently if Isis worship had been the one to take off and endure instead of Christianity?
