CritTech question - 10090150 - Credit for RFDR spread out

Postby CrittersMinion » Sun Oct 09, 2016 7:50 am

Web form question for CritTechers:

Name: Kathleen Martin

Subject: Credit for RFDR spread out

Workshop: critters

================

I was thinking it would be nice to be able to
award critter credit as I got feedback for the
chapters I send to critters -instead of only when
the whole manuscript is done. So in the
Dedicated Reader Completion Form, if I were to
let you know that the reader critiqued say 17000
words for chapters 1-5 (for example), would that
prevent me from letting you know at a later date
that the same reader(s) critiqued 15000 words for
chapters 6-9, etc? I just think that the RFDR
process would be more appealing if the readers
got credit as they went along instead of all at
once at the end. But I don't want to submit the
chapters to the queue each time -I prefer
dedicated readers.

Here is the email reply I received in case other people are interested:

Hi, Kathleen, the author is in complete control of when they award credit in an RFDR. The reason for awarding it at the end is for the author's benefit: It keeps the readers motivated to read the whole piece, rather than drifting away in the middle. If you award partial credit, a reader may not keep going. That's the "dedicated" part of dedicated reader. :)  But it is up to the author. The rules just give the author that control; up to them if they want to use it.

(And right, posting chapters to the weekly queue is the other option.)

Cheers,
Andrew
